A: You know, Aiden, I don’t know much about you. Where were you born?
你知道嗎艾登,我不太了解你。你是在哪兒出生的?
B: I was born in London, but I spent most of my childhood in Hong Kong.
我是在倫敦出生,在香港長大。
A: What was your childhood like?
你小時候過的怎么樣?
B: I had a pretty strict upbringing, and my parents and I were always fighting about it.
小時候家教很嚴(yán),那是我經(jīng)常為這個和我父母對著干。
A: Do you get along with your parents now?
那你現(xiàn)在和父母處的怎么樣了?
B: Oh sure. Once they reached middle age, they became a lot less uptight.
哦,好多了。人近中年,心態(tài)就平和多了。
A: Where did you go to university?
你在哪兒上的大學(xué)?
B: My parents wanted me to stay in Hong Kong, but I decided to go back to England. I graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English literature.
我父母想讓我留在香港,可是我自己決定回英國。后來我從牛津大學(xué)畢業(yè)并且拿到了一個有關(guān)英國文學(xué)的學(xué)位。
A: What is your current occupation?
那你現(xiàn)在做什么工作呢?
B: I’m a freelance writer. I write magazine articles and fiction books.
我是個自由撰稿人。給雜志寫點文章,也寫些小說。
A: Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer?
當(dāng)作家是你一直以來的愿望嗎?
B: Do, I didn’t. I was an English teacher for about five years, but by the time I was 30, I decided I wanted a fresh challenge.
不是。我以前做過5年的英語老師。后來30歲那年,我覺得自己需要個新鮮的挑戰(zhàn)。
A: How did you start writing?
那你是如何踏上寫作之路的呢?
B: I started writing magazine articles for fun and eventually was asked to write a book, so I was pretty lucky.
起初我只是給雜志寫點小文章,寫著玩。后來就有人請我寫書。其實我挺幸運的。
A: Are you writing a book now?
你手頭上有正在寫的書嗎?
B: Yes, it’s about a group of friends living in a foreign country and all the strange experiences they have.
有的。是一本關(guān)于幾個朋友生活在異地他鄉(xiāng)的奇特經(jīng)歷。
A: Sounds interesting.
