A: Hi, Kate. How are you getting along with your new roommates?
B: Hello, Rose. You know, it is just two weeks since we moved to new dormitories. We don’t know each other quite well, however, though from different majors, we share the same interests such as reading fashion magazines, seeing movies and doing yoga. So I think we will enjoy a smooth relationship.
A: Yeah. It is quite easy for us young people to become as thick as thieves in a short time. (At this moment, James passes by and joins in their conversation.)
B: I can’t agree with you anymore. By the way, since we are now in the second year, have you ever thought of living outside?
A: No. I enjoy life on campus very much. Firstly, we can easily get access to all the facilities anytime, it is really convenient. Secondly, we can participate more in the extracurricular activities if we live on campus. Thirdly, we can communicate with our classmates whenever we want to. Fourthly, we can have a night chat with our roommates after a whole day’s work.
C: Yes. But I prefer to be let alone. I like to read books in total silence and I would wake up at the slightest sound. When living in the dorm, it is impossible for all of us to keep the same pace. Now we finally have the opportunity to choose to live outside. Last year was a nightmare4 to me, I usually woke up suddenly and then I could hardly fall asleep again, so I couldn’t concentrate in class.
B: Goodness me! It could hardly be imagined how much you had born last year. If so, it is much better for you live outside by yourself.
A: Yes. I agree. But for us who don’t have the same problem as James, I think we'd better live on campus. Because only by way of living in dorm, can we make our university life complete and colorful. Then how do you think of living together with students who are not of the same major as us?
C: In my opinion, that makes our life more diverse and interesting. Every day we can learn something different in various fields and thus broaden our horizon. As time goes by, we gradually become knowledgeable and may find others interests. How wonderful it is!
B: Yes. But we have much less time to discuss our assignment if we live separately. Maybe get to know other knowledge is at the expense of having more time in learning our major.
A: A coin has two sides. However, we can arrange our time to get our act together.
B: Yes. It is all up to you. It depends on which aspect you value more. To kill two birds with one stone is rather difficult. After all, we are not god.
C: (giggle) Your words hit home. I am sorry. I have to leave now. Mom is waiting for me at home. See you.
A: Bye.
再見!
B: Bye-bye.
A: Kate, I’m going to the library, will you go there?
B: Yes. I have to return the books. Today is the deadline. Let’s go.
