  Table Manners 餐桌禮儀

  dialogue 1

  Tom: we are going out for dinner tonight. Are you coming, Betty?

  晚上我們要一起出去吃飯,貝蒂,你一塊兒去嗎?

  Betty: I'm not sure. I have to check my schedule. Where are you going?

  我不太確定,要先看一下我的安排.你們?nèi)ツ膬撼燥?

  T: oh, Jake made a reservation at Friday's.

  哦,杰克預(yù)定了星期五餐廳.

  B: Jack?

  杰克?

  T: yes, the one with the R$D team. Is that a problem?

  對啊,就是研發(fā)組的杰克.怎么了?

  B: I will never go out with him anymore.

  我再也不會和他一起出去吃飯了.

  T: why did you say so?

  為什么這么說?

  B: last time when we had dinner at the Smith's, it was a horrible experience. He had no manners at all!

  上次我們一起去史密斯家吃晚飯,太可怕了.他吃飯根本就沒規(guī)矩.

  T: oh, really?

  真的嗎?

  B: he made a lot of noises while eating. He talked with his mouth full and sipped loudly.

  他吃飯時發(fā)出很大的聲響,嘴里塞滿了吃的卻說個不停,喝湯時還弄出很大的聲音來.

  T: are you kidding me? How could he behave like that?

  你在開玩笑吧!他怎么能這樣呢?

  B: it is true. Everyone kept looking at him. It was so embarrassing as I was sitting right next to him.

  真的,當(dāng)時每個人都在不停地看著他.我正好坐在他旁邊,覺得特別尷尬.

  T:what a shame! Didn't he realized that?

  真丟人!他自己沒有意識到嗎?

  B: I have no idea. He seemed to enjoy the dinner very much.

  我不知道,他看起來吃的很開心.

  T; maybe he should really something about eating etiquette.

  或許他真該學(xué)學(xué)餐桌禮儀了.

  B: oh, he really should.

  是啊,他真的應(yīng)該學(xué)學(xué).

  T: hi, Betty.what's up?

  你好,貝蒂.最近怎么樣?

  B: nothing special. how about you? Are you used to the life here in the States?

  一切如故.你呢?在美國生活得還習(xí)慣嗎?

  T: evertything has been fine for the past several months.

  這幾個月都挺好的.

  B: great!

  真好!

  T: well, I wish someone could talk to me about Western table manners

  嗯,我希望有人能跟我說說西方的餐桌禮儀.

  B: sounds interesting. Where did you get the idea?

  聽起來挺有意思.為什么會這么想?

  T: as you know, table manners in China are quite different from those of Westerners.

  你也知道,中國的餐桌禮儀和西方的差別還是挺大的.

  B: absolutely. that's because both of us have distinctive cultural features.

  當(dāng)然啦,這是因為我們有不同的文化.

  T: for example, in China, it's okay to talk while eating. However, you may regard it as rude.

  比方說,中國人認(rèn)為吃飯時可以講話,相反你們會覺得這樣很沒禮貌.

  B: yes. this must be a huge difference.

  是的,這是中西文化的一個巨大差異.

  T: can you think of anything else?

  你能說說其他方面嗎?

  B: sure. We tend to think that the slower on eats, the more polite one seems.

  好的.我們會認(rèn)為一個人吃得越慢,顯得越有修養(yǎng).

  T: I didn't know that before.

  我第一次聽說呢.

  B: and we never sip or slurp the soup loudly. we quietly like little mouthfuls.

  而且我們喝湯時不會發(fā)出聲響.我們會安靜地一小口一小口喝.

  T: i got it. i'll bear it in mind.

  我知道了.我應(yīng)該記住這些.

  B: don't worry. i'm sure our etiquette will become a natural part of your behavior as time goes by.

  T: I hope so.
