038 Making requests
Dialogue 1

A: Do you have a minute?
I hope this isn't a bad time.
I have a favor to ask you.
B: Uh... how long do you need?
A: Just five minutes will do.
B: Sure, I can spare five minutes. Ask away...
What can I can do for you?
A: I was wondering if you could help me
to find some information on the Swenson account.
I need to find more deatail
about transactions over the last three months.
B: Actually, I havenot been working on the Swenson account at all.
From what I understand, that client deals in international trade.
I work in domestics, so international is not my expertis--
I probably can't help much.
But you know who you should ask?
A: Who?
B: You should talk to Susan Brown.
She has worked with serval of the international clients.
She should be able to point you in the right direction.
A: Susan Brown? I don't think I know her yet....
Do you think you could introduce her to me,
or help me to get in touch with her?
B: Sure, I can arrange something.
I'll give her a call and set something up.
Here's her email address,
you can go ahead and contact her by email on your own.
A: Okay, thanks!
B: No problem.

Dialogue 2

A: Hey, Mike? Sorry to trouble you,
but I need to ask you for a big favor.
B: What is it this time?
A: There's a meeting this afternoon downtown with the boss
and one of our important clients.
I am supposed to go, but I've just got too much to do.
Would you go in place of me?
B: Most of time I would be happy to help you out,
but I'm not feeling very well.
I was planning on getting out of the office a little early today
so I can go home and go to bed.
Why don't you ask Terry if she'll go instead?
A: I hate to send Terry to keep the boss company.
You know she can't get along with him.
Hmm. What about Tim?
Would you mind asking him if he can fill in for me?
B: Sure, I'll handle if for you. If Tim can't make it,
I'll find someone who can.
But I also need to ask you for a favor...
A: What's that?
B: On your way out of the office tonight
can you swing by the office supply store?
We need more binders,
and I probably won't make it in time to buy them
if I go home early this afternoon.
Would that be okay?
A: Yeah. I can do that for you.
I need to go to the office supply store anyway
to make a few hundred copies for a project,
so it will be on my way.
