History of FIFA

國際足聯(lián)1904年5月21日在巴黎的法國體育運(yùn)動(dòng)聯(lián)合會(huì)總部成立。
Foundation 成立
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in the rear of the headquarters of the Union Française de Sports Athlétiques in Paris on 21 May 1904.

Planning the first FIFA World Cup 籌辦首屆FIFA世界杯
The resonance at the Olympic Games intensified (推動(dòng)) FlFA's wish for its own world championship (錦標(biāo)賽). Following a remarkable proposal (建議) of the Executive Committee (執(zhí)委會(huì)), the FIFA Congress in May 1928 decided to stage a world championship organised by FIFA. Now, the organising country had to be chosen. Hungary (西班牙), Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Hungary submitted (遞交) their candidatures. Right from the start, Uruguay (烏拉圭) was the favourite for important reasons: The country of the twofold Olympic winner (in 1924 and 1928) was celebrating its 100th anniversary (周年紀(jì)念) of independence in 1930 at great expense.
The first World Cup was opened at the Centenary Stadium in Montevideo (蒙得維的亞) on 18 July 1930. A new epoch (新時(shí)代) had begun for world football.
Four years later, the "Father of the World-Cup" Jules Rimet (朱爾斯•雷米特) saw his wish fulfilled, when the 3rd World Cup took place in France, his home country.
The FIFA World Cup should have taken place for the 4th time in 1942. However, the appointment of an organiser was renounced at the Congress in Paris in 1938. The 1942 World Cup never took place. One had to wait until 1 July 1946 for the next Congress. There was only one candidate for the next World Cup Brazil was chosen unanimously (一致通過).

Globalisation 全球化
Over the past 25 years football has not only taken root as the world's major game in an ephemeral world but has also blossomed (蓬勃發(fā)展) in other branches of society, commerce (商業(yè)) and politics. Football, more than any other factor, has enveloped whole regions, people and nations. With approximately two hundred million active players it now constitutes a substantial chunk of the leisure industry, having opened up new markets for itself and for the rest of the business world.

On 8 June 1998 Joseph S. Blatter (SUI) was elected as the successor to João Havelange as the eighth FIFA President. This victory at the 51st FIFA Ordinary Congress in Paris elevated Blatter, who had already served FIFA in various positions for 23 years, onto the highest rung in international football.
