今天Larry和Li Hua一邊開(kāi)車(chē)一邊在車(chē)上聽(tīng)廣播，Li Hua會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)：come clean和no sweat。

(Highway & traffic SFX)

LL:  Hey, Li Hua, did you hear that?  The president of that corporation finally came clean about stealing several million dollars.

LH:  什么什么？我剛才沒(méi)注意聽(tīng)，你說(shuō)那個(gè)公司總裁怎么啦？他來(lái)上班的時(shí)候干干凈凈？這和偷幾百萬(wàn)美元有什么關(guān)系呀？

LL:   No, I said, "He finally came clean about stealing several million dollars." It means "He finally admitted he stole several million dollars."  To come clean about something is to admit to it. 

LH:  噢，to come clean about something 原來(lái)就是“坦白承認(rèn)”。你剛才是說(shuō)那個(gè)公司總裁最后終于承認(rèn)他偷了幾百萬(wàn)美元。這么說(shuō)，Larry, 要是我做錯(cuò)了事，然后承認(rèn)做錯(cuò)了，那我就是come clean 嘍？

LL:  That's right.  If you cheat on a test and then tell the professor because you feel guilty, then you are coming clean about your mistake.

LH:  Hey, Larry, 你可別瞎說(shuō)，我考試從來(lái)不作弊，心里沒(méi)鬼，更不用去教授那兒認(rèn)錯(cuò)。你剛才闖了紅燈，我看吶，你還是干脆承認(rèn)你的開(kāi)車(chē)技術(shù)不怎么樣吧！

LL: What? You want me to come clean about my bad driving? What stop light?  There wasn't a stop light.  Don't tease me like that.

LH:  我知道沒(méi)有紅綠燈，我只不過(guò)是逗你玩兒呢！

LL:  Speaking of coming clean about things, did your roommate ever come clean about stealing your CD?

LH:  沒(méi)有！我那個(gè)同屋偷了我的CD死活都不承認(rèn)，可是我敢肯定是她偷的。

LL:  How do you know?

LH:  有一天我看見(jiàn)她的CD夾子在桌上開(kāi)著，我那張CD明明就在里面。

LL:  Well, if she's not going to come clean about it, then maybe you should just take it back.

LH:  那可不行，她不愿意承認(rèn)是她的問(wèn)題，我可不想亂翻她的東西。

LL:  Then you really need to find a new roommate.  You should just come clean and admit that you made a mistake when you moved in with her.

LH:  你說(shuō)得對(duì)，Larry，我真該換個(gè)同屋，早知道這樣，一開(kāi)始就不該和這個(gè)人搬到一起。

LH:  哎喲，Larry, 你剛才拐彎的時(shí)候開(kāi)這么快，我把可樂(lè)撒在車(chē)座上，把你的車(chē)給弄臟了。

LL:  No sweat.  I'll stop at that gas station and we can get some stuff to clean it up.

LH:  那我們趕緊開(kāi)到前面那個(gè)加油站擦擦干凈吧！可是你還說(shuō) - No sweat - 別出汗？噢，你的意思是讓我別著急，是不是？

LL:  That's right! No sweat means "don't worry about it" or "it's okay."  Don't worry about the coke.  We can clean it up.

LH:  你以前還教過(guò)我一個(gè)類似的短語(yǔ)，是Don't sweat it! 也是“別擔(dān)心，別著急”的意思。除了可以說(shuō)Don't sweat it, 也可以說(shuō)No sweat?？墒牵琇arry, 我還是挺不安的，你看我撒了這么多可樂(lè)，這能擦干凈嗎？

LL:  As I said, no sweat.  The seats are leather, so they are really easy to clean.

LH:  噢，這種皮制的車(chē)座很容易擦干凈啊？這我就放心了。哎，Larry, 你能不能再給我舉個(gè) no sweat 的例子?

LL:  Well, if someone accidentally bumps into you in the hallway and they say, "sorry," you can tell them, "no sweat."

LH:  嗯，要是有人在樓道里不小心撞到我，他如果說(shuō)sorry, 我就可以說(shuō)，No sweat! 也就是沒(méi)關(guān)系的意思。Larry, 昨天我和一個(gè)朋友約好一起吃午飯，可是他沒(méi)來(lái)。我估計(jì)是忘了，我下次見(jiàn)到他能不能也對(duì)他說(shuō)No sweat呢？

LL:  Well, personally, that would upset me, but if he comes clean about the fact that he has forgotten to meet you, then you can tell him no sweat.

LH:   對(duì)，讓我白等是挺讓人惱火的。你說(shuō)得對(duì)，要是他承認(rèn)是把約會(huì)給忘了，那我就會(huì)告訴他 No sweat - Don't worry about it 。

今天李華從Larry那兒學(xué)到了兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)。一個(gè)是come clean, 意思是“坦白承認(rèn)”。另一個(gè)常用語(yǔ)是 no sweat,  意思是“別著急，別擔(dān)心”。
