美國(guó)之音之流行美語fishy / to luck out
Michael在紐約上大學(xué)，他父母住在華盛頓，這個(gè)周末他請(qǐng)李華到他父母家作客。今天，李華會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語：fishy和to luck out。
L: Michael, 謝謝你請(qǐng)我到你家來過周末。有機(jī)會(huì)和一個(gè)美國(guó)家庭一 起過周末對(duì)我來說是很有意義的。你的爸爸媽媽人真好，我也很喜歡你的妹妹。
M: She's not usually so nice. Normally all she does is complain. I think there's something fishy going on.
L: 噢，你說她平時(shí)沒有象這兩天討人喜歡呀？她老是愛抱怨，這我 倒是看不出來。你說，there's something fishy going on, 那是什么 意思呀？Fish不是魚嗎？
M: Oh, fishy is fish with a "y". It means there is something suspicious going on.
L: 你的意思是，你妹妹表現(xiàn)得那么好，和平時(shí)不一樣，你覺得有點(diǎn) 可疑。為什么呢？
M: Because she always acts this way when she is trying to get our parents to let her do something.
L: 對(duì)，有些孩子是這樣的。當(dāng)他們想問家長(zhǎng)要什么的時(shí)候就會(huì)表現(xiàn) 得出奇的好。要求滿足了，一切又照常了。
M: I can say something is fishy if I think someone is lying about something.
L: 這我就清楚了，你要是認(rèn)為某個(gè)人在騙你，你就可以說：It seems fishy.
M: That's right.
L: 比方說，我那天接到一個(gè)旅行社的電話，說我得了一個(gè)獎(jiǎng)。他說我可 以到四個(gè)地方去旅行一個(gè)星期只要二百美元，但是要我馬上付這筆錢。我當(dāng)時(shí)就覺得可疑，I thought something was fishy, 對(duì)不對(duì)？
M: You're absolutely right. Let me tell you something, the travel company probably doesn't even exist. After you pay them, you won't be able to find them anymore.
L: 喲，幸虧我沒上當(dāng)。原來是騙局，等我付了錢，他們就消失了！ 這可太氣人了！
M: You really have to be careful whenever you smell something fishy.

L: Michael， 一個(gè)周末過得真快。好象剛到，現(xiàn)在又要搭飛機(jī)走了。
M: Look, half of the flights are canceled because of the snow, but ours is still on time. We really lucked out.
L: 噢，因?yàn)橄卵砸话氲暮桨喽急蝗∠?，我們的卻還按時(shí)飛。 真是運(yùn)氣。你剛才說的lucked out大概就是運(yùn)氣的意思吧？
M: Yes, it means we were really fortunate.
L: 那每當(dāng)我覺得運(yùn)氣好的時(shí)候，我都能用to luck out來表示嗎？
M: Yes, for example, I can say I really lucked out on that test last week. I didn't study very much for it, but I still knew all the answers on the test.
L: 上星期的考試，我可沒有考好。你沒怎么念書倒是都能答出考題， you really lucked out on that test. 我可沒有這種運(yùn)氣。我要不念書就 考不好。
M: Hold on a second, I think they just called my name. I hope nothing's wrong.
L: 對(duì)，我也聽到他們叫你的名字呢，快去看看，有什么問題。
L: 怎么回事，Michael, 票子沒有問題吧？
M: No, in fact I lucked out again. I dropped my wallet at the ticket counter. They just wanted to return it to me.
L: 喲，你錢包掉了還不知道，柜臺(tái)撿到了還主動(dòng)還給你。你哪 來那么好的運(yùn)氣吶！You really lucked out this time! 錢包里有多少錢 哪？
M: Not much, only ten bucks! Come on Li Hua, let's board the plane.
李華今天學(xué)到了兩個(gè)常用語，一個(gè)是：fishy，意思是懷疑對(duì)方不老實(shí)，有花招；另一個(gè)是：to luck out，這是指沒有料到的運(yùn)氣。這里[流行美語]就學(xué)習(xí)到這里。我們下次再見。
