As is known to all,it's the tradition of Chinese to set off firecrackers when people are observing the Spring Festival. However, there are two quite different opinions on the custom and whether it should be prohibited.
Some people consider it to be positive since it represents people's good wish for the prosperous New Year and traditional Chinese culture. When the western culture has been imposing more and more influence on Chinese, protecting our own tradition seems to be urgent and necessary. However,on the other hand, some people are strongly against such activity, arguing that letting off firecrackers will definitely pollute the air, which is totally against the trend of protecting our only earth.
When it comes to me,I think that there are always two sides of a coin, which means that we need to find a balance between protecting the environment and preserving traditional culture. For instance, bans should be partly set on letting off firecrackers, which means that it's legal to set off firecrackers on certain days, such as the Eve of Chinese New Year, and at certain places that are under the supervision of the fire brigade and the authority in charge of environmental protection.Meanwhile,we can also encourage people to replace firecrackers with the tape of sound, and that can both protect the environment and add to the happy atmosphere of the festival.
In a word,we ought to see both the positive and negative aspects of it,and I firmly believe as long as people pay attention to the both sides, the problem is certain to be solved.
