How to Write Cover or Application Letters

 

In employers' eyesa job hunter's resume is worth 30points and the cover letter is worth 20pointsSo writing good cover letters is almost as important as writing resumes

When you prepare to write a cover or application letter,you could refer to the following checklist1)

I.  AttentionOpening Paragraph

ACapture2) the reader's attention in a businesslike wayChoose an option:1.Summary3) openingPresent your strongestmost relevant qualifications,with         

an explanation of how they can benefit the organization

2.Name openingMention the name of a person who is well known to the reader and who has suggested that you apply for the job

3.Source4) openingWhen responding to a job ad,identify the publication in which the ad appearedand briefly describe how you meet each requirement stated in the ad

4.Question openingPose an attentiongetting question that shows you understand an organization's problem,need,or goal and have a genuine5) desire6) to help solve or meet it

5.News openingCite7) a publicized organizational achievementcontemplated change,or new procedure or product;then link it to your desire to work for the organization

6.Personalized openingPresent one of your relevant  interests,mention previous experience with the organization,or cite your present position or status as a means of leading up to a discussion of why you want to work for the organization

7.Creative openingDemonstrate your flair and imagination with colorful phrasing,especially if the job requires these qualities

BState that you are applying for a joband identify the position or type of work you seek

IIInterest and Desire or Evidence o f Qualifications next several paragraphs

Present your key qualifications for the jobhighlighting what is on your resumejobrelated education and training;relevant work experience and related activities,interests,and qualities

AAdopt a mature and businesslike tone

1.Eliminate boasting and exaggeration

2.Back up your claims of ability by citing specific achievements in educational and work settings or in outside activities

3.Demonstrate a knowledge of the organization and desire to join it by citing its operations or trends in the industry

BLink your education,experience,and personal qualities to the job requirements

1.Relate aspects of your training or work experience to those of the target position

2.Outline your educational preparation for the job

3.Provide proof that you can learn quickly,are a hard workercan handle responsibility,and or get along well with others

4.Present ample evidence of the personal qualities and the work attitudes that are desirable for job performance

IIIActionclosing paragraph

1.Request an interview at the reader's convenience

2.State your phone numberwith area codeand the best time to reach youto make the interview request easy to comply with8),or mention a time when you will be calling to set up an interview

3.Express appreciation for an opportunity to have an interview

4.Repeat your strongest qualification,to help reinforce the claim that you have something to offer the organization

 

如何寫求職附信或求職信

 

    在雇主眼里,一個(gè)求職人員的履歷表占30分,求職附信占20分。所以寫好求職附信幾乎和寫履歷表一樣重要。

當(dāng)你準(zhǔn)備寫求職附信或求職信時(shí),你不妨參閱以下一覽表。

I.引起注意(首段)

A.以一種職業(yè)風(fēng)范引起閱讀者的注意??蛇x擇以下其一:

1.概括性開場白:展現(xiàn)你最具優(yōu)勢(shì),最為相關(guān)的資歷,并說明這些資歷將如何使公司受益。

2.以名字開場:提及閱讀者熟知的人名,并說明是此人建議你來應(yīng)聘這一職位的。

3.以信息來源開場:當(dāng)看中一個(gè)招聘廣告而求職時(shí),明確說出該廣告的出處,并簡要描述你是如何符合廣告中所陳述的每一條件要求。

4.以問題為開場:提出某一能引起注意的問題,表明你理解公司的問題、需求或目標(biāo),并有真誠的愿望來幫助解決問題或應(yīng)對(duì)問題。

5.以新聞開場:引用某一眾所周知的公司成就,某一期盼的變革,或某一全新的程序或產(chǎn)品;然后將之與你要為公司工作的愿望結(jié)合起來。

6.個(gè)人化開場白:闡述你某一相關(guān)的興趣,提及你與公司打過的交道,或者指出你現(xiàn)在的職位或地位,借以引導(dǎo)對(duì)方和你共同探討你為何想為該公司工作。

7.創(chuàng)意性開場白:用華麗的辭藻展現(xiàn)你的天賦和想像力,特別是當(dāng)你所應(yīng)聘的工作需要這些才能時(shí)。

B.表明你是應(yīng)聘一份工作,并明確說明你所尋求的職位或工作類別。

II.興趣和愿望或資歷陳述(下幾段)

闡明你符合工作條件的主要資歷,著重強(qiáng)調(diào)你履歷表上的要點(diǎn):與工作相關(guān)的教育和培訓(xùn)資歷;相關(guān)的工作經(jīng)歷和相關(guān)的種種活動(dòng)、興趣和能力。

A.以一種成熟的、認(rèn)真做事的筆調(diào)描述你的資歷。

1.切忌吹噓和夸張。

2.列舉你在教育、工作或其他活動(dòng)中的具體成就以證實(shí)你的能力。

3.提出公司在產(chǎn)業(yè)中的經(jīng)營情況或發(fā)展趨勢(shì),以表明你對(duì)公司的了解和欲加入其中的愿望。

B.把你的教育背景、工作經(jīng)歷和個(gè)人品質(zhì)同工作要求結(jié)合起來。

1.把你所受過的培訓(xùn)或工作經(jīng)歷與你欲求的職位掛鉤。

2.列出你為投身工作所做的種種學(xué)業(yè)準(zhǔn)備。

3.提供證據(jù)說明你學(xué)得快,勤奮刻苦,能承擔(dān)責(zé)任,能友善地和他人相處。

4.充分證明你具有做好工作所要求的種種個(gè)人品質(zhì)和工作態(tài)度。

III.行動(dòng)(結(jié)束段)

1.懇請(qǐng)?jiān)陂喿x者方便之際予以面談。

2.寫明你的電話號(hào)碼(包括地區(qū)編碼)和打電話找你的最佳時(shí)間,好讓安排面談更順暢些,或者提出一個(gè)時(shí)間你將打電話商討面談。

3.對(duì)若有面談的機(jī)會(huì)表示感激。

4.重述你最具優(yōu)勢(shì)的資歷,強(qiáng)調(diào)你對(duì)公司將會(huì)是有用之才。
