America Confirmed New Commerce Secretary

In Washington: The Senate Commerce Committee has opened the hearing(1) to confirm Donald Evans as the new Commerce Secretary. The Texas oil businessman was chief money raiser for the election campaign(2) of President-elect George W. Bush. In Texas, Mr. Bush has been holding a second day of talks with business leaders to discuss the economy. He has praised a surprised reduction(3) in interest rates by the American Central Bank on Wednesday. But he said his proposal to lower taxes would also help the economy. Mr. Bush wants to cut taxes by 1.3 million million dollars over 10 years.
