［注解］due應(yīng)給予的。
［譯］榮譽(yù)歸于應(yīng)得榮譽(yù)的人。
Honours change manners.
［注解］出自拉丁語。指人在有錢有勢(shì)時(shí)，就會(huì)驕傲自大，目中無人。近似此義的諺語還有：Lordships change manners.貴族的身份改變?nèi)说膽B(tài)度。身價(jià)改變?nèi)说膽B(tài)度，態(tài)度隨地位改變。

Hypocrisy is a homage that vice pays to virtue.
［注解］pay (or do) homage to對(duì)……表示敬意，服從。指即使是最壞的人，也在乎別人的批評(píng)。為了博得美名榮譽(yù)，壞人會(huì)盡量掩飾其本性，表現(xiàn)得像有聲望的人。homage順從，尊敬。vice罪惡。
［譯］偽善是罪惡對(duì)美德表示的敬意。
