8. Beanbrain

 beanbrain(bean-brain) 理解力差的人，笨蛋、傻子、呆瓜

 beanbrained (bean-brained) 豆大腦筋的，精打細(xì)算的，目光如豆的

 have the brain capacity of a bean bag 顯得笨頭笨腦

Beanbrain 此字1950年代初期始見于英文文獻(xiàn)，是較新的損人語，用以諷男譏女均可。此字可當(dāng)“名詞、形容詞、動詞”，語氣雖不粗俗，但正式社交場所仍不登大雅之堂，紳士淑女奉勸少用。(請參見 birdbrain，peabrain 各條)。

1. beanbrain 呆瓜

A. Don’t let that bean-brain do it. Get it done yourself.

別讓那個呆瓜插手，你自己處理好了。

2. beanbrained 精打細(xì)算的，豆大腦筋的

A. That main theme in both books1，is，almost expectably，the old one of the Noble Savage.2 Since these pea-brained hominoids have never evolved even as far as bean-brained businessmen3， professors，publishers，agents，whatever,they must necessarily have Much Ancient Wisdom4 to impart to crass and materialistic moderns.

兩本書以似可料到的崇高野蠻人那個老套為主題。由于這些豆大腦子的原始人進(jìn)化程度遠(yuǎn)不及精打算盤的商人、教授、出版商、代理人，等等，故必然有成堆的古訓(xùn)要傳給崇拜物質(zhì)生活的現(xiàn)代人。

注：

1. both books 指John Darton著的Neanderthal (尼安德特人)及 Petru Popesc 的 Almost Adam (亞當(dāng)?shù)慕H)，皆論史前時代的人類祖先問題。

2. Noble Savage 崇高的野蠻人，是戲言，字首大寫以強調(diào)之。

3. Bean-brained businessmen 此處借bean喻penny，nickel or dime(美金的最小三個單位)，諷喻商人目光如豆，連小錢也看得很重。

4. Much Ancient Wisdom 成堆的古訓(xùn)，此乃諷刺語，字首大寫，以強調(diào)之。

A. We lost the account because some bean-brained salesman said the wrong thing at the wrong time.

由于一個豆大腦筋的業(yè)務(wù)員不但說錯了話，而且在時機不當(dāng)時說的，害得我們失去了那個客戶。

B. Is there any way we can get the customer back?

有沒有辦法挽救回來?

3. have the brain capacity of a bean bag 顯得笨頭笨腦

A. Very often，men change because women will no longer tolerate being1 with a partner who has the brain capacity of a bean-bag.

婦女再也受不了什么都不會的性伴侶時，男人經(jīng)常會加以改進(jìn)［其性行為］。

注：

1. will no longer tolerate being with… 無法容忍與……在一起。Tolerate是及物動詞，being with… 是動名詞短語作賓語。因為是一種狀況，有時要借重 be 來表達(dá)。be 變成 being 后，不論+形容詞或名詞甚至地點副詞，都是動名詞短語，但注意有時being是be動詞的現(xiàn)在分詞，在進(jìn)行被動句中用之。
