5. Bad acting has its benefits

There once was a young man who went to his girlfriend's home and said to her father, "Sir, may I ask your permission1 to marry your daughter?" And the father said, "No way. There's no way my daughter is going to marry an actor. That's final!"

But the boy begged him, "Please, before you make a final decision, would you at least go to see my performance2 tonight and then decide?" So the father said, "OK, fair enough."

So that evening the father took his daughter to the theater3 to see the young man perform, and after the performance, he took his daughter backstage4 into the young man's dressing room and said, "OK, you can marry my daughter, no problem."

The young man was beside himself and so happy that he said, "Yes, sir, but why?" And the father said, "Because you're no actor."

但是男孩請(qǐng)求他說(shuō)：“拜托您至少先看了我今晚的表演，再做最后決定，好嗎？”那位父親說(shuō)：“好吧！這個(gè)要求不過(guò)分。”

當(dāng)天晚上，這位父親就帶著女兒去劇院看年輕人的演出。表演結(jié)束后，他帶女兒到后臺(tái)的演員化妝室，告訴年輕人說(shuō)：“沒(méi)問(wèn)題，你可以娶我的女兒?！?

年輕人欣喜若狂地說(shuō)：“太好了！是什么原因讓您同意呢？”這位父親回答：“因?yàn)槟悴皇钱?dāng)演員的料！”
