拜登堅稱撤軍是'正確決定'

US President Joe Biden on Monday stood by his decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan while acknowledging Kabul's collapse to the Taliban came much sooner than Washington had anticipated. "I stand squarely behind my decision," said Biden in a televised speech from the White House. "The truth is this did unfold more quickly than we had anticipated."

美國總統(tǒng)拜登8月16日在白宮發(fā)表電視講話，為自己作出的從阿富汗撤軍的決定辯護(hù)。不過他也承認(rèn)，面對塔利班，阿富汗政府的潰敗比華盛頓預(yù)期的要快得多。拜登說："我認(rèn)為從阿富汗撤軍是完全正確的決定。事實上，事態(tài)發(fā)展比我們預(yù)想的更快。"

The speech came one day after the Taliban completed a stunningly swift takeover of the war-torn country's capital of Kabul on Sunday after Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani left the country. "If anything, the developments of the past week reinforced that ending US military involvement in Afghanistan, now, was the right decision," said Biden, who returned to the White House from Camp David ahead of schedule.

8月15日，塔利班在極短時間內(nèi)就控制了阿富汗首都喀布爾，在此之前，阿富汗總統(tǒng)加尼已離開阿富汗。得知消息后，拜登提前結(jié)束在戴維營的行程，返回白宮。拜登說，過去一周的事態(tài)發(fā)展進(jìn)一步說明，現(xiàn)在結(jié)束美國在阿富汗的軍事介入是正確的決定。

"American troops cannot and should not be fighting in a war and dying in a war that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves," he said. Biden said the US mission in Afghanistan to defeat the Sept 11 attackers and ensure al-Qaida could not use Afghanistan as a base to hit the US had been completed.

美國軍隊不能也不應(yīng)該在一場連阿富汗軍隊都不愿為自己而戰(zhàn)的戰(zhàn)爭中去戰(zhàn)斗和犧牲。拜登表示，美國出兵阿富汗的目的就是抓住發(fā)動911襲擊的兇手，確保基地組織不會以阿富汗作為大本營對美國發(fā)動襲擊，這一目標(biāo)已經(jīng)實現(xiàn)。
