1) be in hot water
中文里有個(gè)說法,叫做處于水深火熱之中,形容人的處境危險(xiǎn)。在英語(yǔ)中,be in hot water means to be in or get into a difficult situation in which you are in danger of being criticized or punished. 意思是遇到麻煩,處于困境之中。與中文的水深火熱的意思相似。
If he can't borrow that bank loan by this Friday, he'll be in hot water.
如果在周五前他沒有辦法從銀行那兒得到貸款,那他就有麻煩了。
I need to be at the airport early. So I might be in hot water if traffic was worse than normal.

2) hot potato
Hot potato means a subject or problem that no one wants to deal with, because it is difficult and any decision might make people angry. Hot potato可以翻譯為燙手山芋,喻指棘手的問題。有的同學(xué)直譯過來會(huì)翻譯成“熱土豆”,那可就鬧笑話啦!
They are trying their best to do anything they can to drop her like a hot potato.
他們正想盡他們最大努力來把她這個(gè)燙手山芋給甩掉。
3) Blow hot and cold
Blow hot and cold means to sometimes like or be interested in something or someone and sometimes not, so people are confused about how you really feel. “Blow hot and cold” 用來形容對(duì)事物的興趣像天氣一樣忽冷忽熱,變化無常,或者總是改變自己的觀點(diǎn),搖擺不定。
The summer holiday is coming, but Annie is still blowing hot and cold about going on a vacation to Hong Kong.
暑假要來了,但是Annie對(duì)于去香港度假的事情仍然搖擺不定。
