為解決食物浪費危機 英國任命首任廚余專員

The British government has appointed a food wastechampion to tackle the problem of 250 millionmeals being thrown away in the UK each year.

近日，英國政府任命了一位廚余專員以解決該國每年2.5億頓餐食被丟棄的問題。

Ben Elliot, a philanthropist and co-founder of thelifestyle group Quintessentially, will aim to help thegovernment eliminate food waste going to landfillby 2030.

本·艾略特是一位慈善家，也是生活管理集團精英會集團的聯(lián)合創(chuàng)始人，他計劃在2030年前幫助政府徹底解決食物浪費的問題。

He was appointed to the unpaid, voluntary role by Michael Gove, the environment secretary.

Elliot's first task will be to oversee the Food Waste Fund, a 15 million pounds pilot schemethat will redistribute surplus food, Gove said.

戈夫稱，艾略特的首項任務是監(jiān)管“食物浪費基金”--一個價值1500萬英鎊、重新配置多余食品的試點項目。

Currently around 43,000 tons of surplus food is redistributed from retailers and foodmanufacturers every year, the government says.

英國政府表示，目前每年約有4.3萬噸的多余食物由零售商和食品生產(chǎn)商進行重新配置。

It is estimated a further 100,000 tons of food -- equating to 250 million meals a year -- isedible and readily available but goes uneaten. Instead, it is sent away for generating energyfrom waste, or for animal feed.

據(jù)估計，還有10萬噸左右可食用的現(xiàn)成食品--相當于一年2.5億噸餐食卻沒被人們食用，而是被用于廢物發(fā)電或喂養(yǎng)動物。
