生活已足夠艱難，何不善待彼此

在本地一所醫(yī)院里，我和姐姐已經(jīng)通宵達(dá)旦了許多個(gè)夜晚

as our mother was in critical condition.

我們的母親身體狀況十分危急。

ICU and all that goes with it.

她已經(jīng)進(jìn)了重癥監(jiān)護(hù)室，還有隨之而來(lái)的各種檢查和醫(yī)療手段

There was a man

有一個(gè)男人

close to our age

跟我們差不多年紀(jì)

who sat alone for as many days as we had.

他坐咋床邊的時(shí)間跟我們一樣長(zhǎng)

The worry was on his face..

他臉上憂(yōu)心忡忡

the tense conversations he had with the doctors....

還有他與醫(yī)生們之間的緊張對(duì)話(huà)

He was much more polite to us.

他對(duì)我們尤為禮貌

I'm so ashamed to admit it..

我十分慚愧的承認(rèn)

We were not very kind to him.

我們對(duì)他并不特別友好

every time he went for a bottle of water

每次他要去買(mǎi)瓶水喝

He offered to bring us something back..

他總會(huì)提出為我們帶一些東西回來(lái)

We just said no..

我們只是說(shuō)“不了”

Not no thank you..

不是“不用了，謝謝”

Not thanks for asking..

不是“謝謝你的好意”

Just No..

僅僅是兩個(gè)字，“不了”

Being a huge inner city hospital

作為一個(gè)內(nèi)城地區(qū)的大型醫(yī)院

they don't allow anyone in at night after 9 pm

他們到晚上9點(diǎn)鐘之后就不允許外人探病

unless you have an ID..

除非你有醫(yī)院的通行證

Late one Saturday night

周六夜里，時(shí)間已經(jīng)很晚了

the lobby was just a horrible place.

走廊里亂糟糟的

We had walked out to our car

我和姐姐已經(jīng)下樓準(zhǔn)備去停車(chē)場(chǎng)

but had left our purses 12 floors up.

卻想起來(lái)把我們的錢(qián)包丟在12樓的病房了

The guards said NO..

門(mén)衛(wèi)不讓我們進(jìn)去

No ID No entry..

沒(méi)有證件，就不得入內(nèi)

Before we could even get real mad

在我們真正開(kāi)始發(fā)火之前

this voice came out of no where

忽然有一個(gè)聲音不知從何處傳來(lái)

and my life was forever changed.

我的生活被永遠(yuǎn)的改變了

"Sir..“

先生，”他對(duì)守門(mén)人說(shuō)到

these ladies have been sitting across from me for the last 6 days

過(guò)去整整六天，這兩位女士一直坐在我斜對(duì)面的床邊

as their mom is in ICU..

她們的母親在重癥監(jiān)護(hù)室

Here is my ID..

這是我的證件

I can vouch for them

我能為他們擔(dān)保

They going through a lot...

他們已經(jīng)受了很多罪了

I'm going through a lot with my wife"..

我也為我的妻子受了很多罪

His voice choked up as he spoke....

他一邊說(shuō)，一邊聲音哽咽起來(lái)Please .拜托了

let them pass.."

請(qǐng)讓他們進(jìn)來(lái)吧

His arms went over our shoulders as he spoke..

他說(shuō)話(huà)的時(shí)候，胳膊已經(jīng)放到了我們的肩膀上

His genuine warmth of kindness and compassion brought tears to our eyes..

他真誠(chéng)的善意和熱情是如此溫暖，我們眼中不覺(jué)有了淚水

The guard agreed ..

守衛(wèi)同意了

The man walked with us to the elevator

他有陪著我們走到電梯旁

holding our hands.

一直牽著我們的手

We found in him a complete 100% genuine person..

我們這時(shí)才發(fā)現(xiàn)，他是一個(gè)如此真誠(chéng)的人

Over the next few days

接下來(lái)的幾天

we cried together..

我們一起哭

laughed together....

一起笑

We were all he had when his wife passed a week later.

他的妻子一周之后就去世了，我們成了唯一能安慰他的人

They hadn't lived in our state long..

他們?cè)谖覀冞@個(gè)州居住的時(shí)間并不長(zhǎng)

They had no family

他們無(wú)親無(wú)故

and he hadn't even met his co-workers yet

他甚至還沒(méi)有跟同事見(jiàn)過(guò)面

as she ended up in the hospital as soon as they arrived.

他們剛到達(dá)這里，她就住進(jìn)了醫(yī)院

Our mother came through

我們的母親熬了過(guò)去

and is fine..

現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)大好

This sweet man’s heart was so broken.

這位好心的男人卻心痛無(wú)比

We were two of only a few people at her funeral.

在他妻子的葬禮上，賓客寥寥無(wú)幾，我們兩個(gè)也在其中

We have all remained friends since that sad time.

這段悲傷的日子過(guò)后，我們一直都是朋友

He is our best friend.

他成了我們最好的朋友

Sadness brought us together

but our bond of friendship holds us tight.

但我們的友誼讓我們更加親密無(wú)間

I was as impolite as could be

我曾對(duì)他那樣無(wú)禮

and now I hate myself for it.

現(xiàn)在我為此懊悔不已

We're all just people.

我們都只是普通人

This man never judged us.

這個(gè)人從未對(duì)我們抱有偏見(jiàn)

We were just rude...

我們卻如此無(wú)禮

My only regret is

我唯一的遺憾是

I wish we'd known him soon..

我希望自己曾早一點(diǎn)遇到他

He is our "pal"

他是我們的“閨蜜”

We love him to death and vice versa....

我們會(huì)愛(ài)他一生一世，而他也同樣如此
