As the temperature drops and autumn sets in, Mother Nature is painting the treetops in vibrant hues of red, orange and gold, and many people are planning their leaf-viewing vacations.

SmokyMountains.com created a prediction map for the year's fall colors using millions of historical data points from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
"The predictive fall leaf map helps potential travelers, photographers and leaf peepers determine the precise future date that the leaves will peak in each area of the continental United States," Wes Melton, a data scientist and CTO of SmokyMountains.com, told Travel + Leisure.
"We believe this interactive tool will enable travelers to take more meaningful fall vacations, capture beautiful fall photos and enjoy the natural beauty of autumn," said Melton.
The color change of the leaves depends more on light than temperature, so it takes place at about the same time each year. But temperature, rain and other weather conditions can have an impact on the timing of the leaves' changing color. Thanks to warmer-than-average temperatures, fall is taking longer to come around for 2019. The good news is, with much of the U.S. having had an unusually wet summer, the tree are healthy and happy.
Here's a look at what to expect this fall if you're looking for colorful foliage.
Northeast
東北部

Peak time: There are a few patchy areas in the Northeast where leaves have already started to change, per SmokyMountains.com's map. The region may be at or near its peak by early October, and it'll be past its peak by late in the month. Fall foliage tends to peak for about one week around October 5th in Vermont, whereas the northern parts of New York and Vermont will be past their peak by mid-October.
Southeast
東南部

Peak time: Some parts of the Southeast will have minimal to patchy color changes by the middle of October. The leaves are changing in North Carolina around November 2nd, but for peak foliage, aim to head outside around November 9th. If you give it a few more weeks, swatches of Virginia and Tennessee will be at their peaks. However, most of the region won't start to peak until early November, with the southernmost areas not peaking until the middle of the month.
Midwest
中西部

Peak time: The northern portions of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota — will peak by early October. The rest of the region is expected to peak later in October.
Central U.S.

Peak time: The northernmost states in the region won't begin to really change up the colors until near the middle of October. Texas' leaves will change from November 16th through the end of November. In the northern part of the Lone Star State, you might see them at peak as early as November 9th.
Northwest
西北部

Peak time: The leaves will start to visibly change in Washington state around October 1st, and peak around October 12th. You may be able to see peak foliage as late as October 26th in southern parts of the region.
West and Southwest

Peak time: Northern California will see the peak of the season from about October 26th through November 9th. If you're down south, plan to head out November 9th through mid-November. Some parts of the Mountain West are already receiving their first snow of the season, which will dampen fall foliage.
