The Foods You Can Bring Through Airport Security
Not long ago, a guy in front of me in the airport security line was surprised he couldn’t bring a container of soup on the plane. That might seem obvious to most travelers, but in case the TSA’s food rules are unclear, Consumerist breaks it down.
Most of us know you can’t bring liquids larger than 3.4 oz through security, but a few others that are similarly prohibited include: yogurt, jam, oils, jellies, dips and spreads. My TSA allows you to search specific items, including food, to see if you’re allowed to bring it through security.
If you’re unsure, the app is probably your best bet, but Consumerist specifies which foods are prohibited, which are allowed, and which are allowed as long as they’re wrapped or in a container.
You can bring cakes, bananas, apples, oranges, pretzels, chips and cookies on, of course, and you can also bring firm cheese, burgers, and sliced fruit, as long as they’re wrapped.
Again, these might be a no-brainer for frequent travelers, but it’s something to keep in mind if you buy a gift basket or some other souvenir to bring back home.
