奧巴馬寫給女兒的信

        I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.

　　我明白這兩年我錯(cuò)過的太多了，今天我要再向你們說說為何我 決定帶領(lǐng)我們一家走上這趟旅程。

　　When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want.

　　后來，你們倆進(jìn)入了我的世界，帶來的種種好奇、 淘氣和微笑，總能填滿我的心，照亮我的日子。

　　But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill myheart and light up my day.

　　突然之間，我為自己譜寫的偉大計(jì)劃顯得不再那么重要了。我很快便發(fā)現(xiàn)，我在你們生命中看到的快樂，就是我自己 生命中最大的快樂。

　　And suddenly, all my big plans formyself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours.

　　而我也同時(shí)體認(rèn)到，如果我不能確保你們此生能夠擁有追求幸福和自我實(shí)現(xiàn)的一切機(jī)會，我自己的生命也沒多大價(jià)值。

　　And I realized that my own life wouldn‘t count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours.

　　總而言之，我的女兒，這 就是我競選總統(tǒng)的原因：我要讓你們倆和這個(gè)國家的每一個(gè)孩子，都能擁有我想要給他們的東西。

　　In the end, girls, that‘s why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation。

　　當(dāng)我還年輕的時(shí)候，我認(rèn)為生活就該繞著我轉(zhuǎn)：我如何在這世上得心應(yīng)手，成功立業(yè)，得到我想要的。

　　I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential—schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them.

　　我要讓所有兒童都在能夠發(fā)掘他們潛能的學(xué)校就讀；這些學(xué)校要能挑戰(zhàn)他們，激勵(lì)他們，并灌輸他們對身處的這個(gè)世界的好奇心。

　　I want them tohave the chance to go to college—even if their parents aren't rich.

　　我要他們有機(jī)會上大學(xué)，那怕他們的父母并不富有。
