Shirley saw a little bird fall from a tree. The bird hurt its leg and couldn't fly. Shirley took it home. She cleaned its dirty feather. Her mother treated its wound. Several days later, the bird got better and sang for Shirley. Shirley liked it very much. But a month later, when the bird was fully recovered, it became less happier. It barely ate, drank, or sang. Shirley was very worried. She tried many ways to make the bird happy. She served it tasty desserts. She dressed it with cute skirts and pearls. But nothing worked. She turned to her mother for help. Her mother smiled, “Sweetheart, if you're away from home for a long time, how would you feel?” Shirley understood. She set the bird free.
