Sherlock Holmes and I had no difficulty in engaging a bedroom and sitting-room at the Crown Inn.

At dusk we saw Dr. Grimesby Roylott drive past,

his huge form looming up beside the little figure of the lad who drove him.

The boy had some slight difficulty in undoing the heavy iron gates,
那男仆在打開沉重的大鐵門時，稍稍費了點事，
and we heard the hoarse roar of the doctor's voice and saw the fury with which he shook his clinched fists at him.
我們聽到醫(yī)生嘶啞的咆哮聲，并且看到他由于激怒而對那男仆揮舞著拳頭。
The trap drove on, and a few minutes later we saw a sudden light spring up among the trees as the lamp was lit in one of the sitting-rooms.
馬車繼續(xù)前進，過一會兒，我們看到樹叢里突然照耀出一道燈光，原來這是有一間起居室點上了燈。
"Do you know, Watson," said Holmes as we sat together in the gathering darkness,
"你知道嗎，華生？"福爾摩斯說。這時，夜幕逐漸降臨。
"I have really some scruples as to taking you to-night. There is a distinct element of danger."
我們正坐在一起談話，"今天晚上你同我一起來，我的確不無顧慮，因為確實存在著明顯的危險因素。"
"Can I be of assistance?"
"我能助一臂之力嗎？"
"Your presence might be invaluable."
"你在場可能會起很重要的作用。"
"Then I shall certainly come."

"It is very kind of you."
