第十四課 鸚鵡的故事

A poor man had a parrot. The parrot had been taught to say the words, There is no doubt about it.

一個(gè)可憐的人養(yǎng)了一只鸚鵡。這只鸚鵡被教會(huì)了說(shuō)這句話(huà)“關(guān)于它毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)?！?/p>

These words were all it could learn, and it might have been heard all day long either whistling a tune, or calling out, There is no doubt about it!—There is no doubt about it!

它只學(xué)了這句話(huà)，或許它整天只聽(tīng)到吹著小曲的或者大聲喊著的“此事毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)！”“此事毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)！”

To every question Poll always gave the same reply—There is no doubt about it!

對(duì)所有的問(wèn)題，Poll總是給出同一種答案---“此事毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)。”

One day its master went to market to sell it. Who'll buy my parrot? cried he. Twenty pounds for my parrot!

一天，它的主人帶它去趕集要把它賣(mài)掉，大喊道，“有沒(méi)有人買(mǎi)鸚鵡？”“只要20鎊?！?/p>

A man, hearing the high price that was asked, turned to the parrot, and said, Poll, art thou worth twenty pounds?

一位男士聽(tīng)到這個(gè)高價(jià)后，轉(zhuǎn)向了鸚鵡，問(wèn)道“Poll，你值20磅嗎？”

There is no doubt about it! was Poll's reply. The man was so pleased, that he bought the bird, and carried it home.

“毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)”鸚鵡回答道。這個(gè)人很高興，他買(mǎi)走了鸚鵡，把它帶回家。

Some time after, he was sorry for his bargain. Standing beside the
