1. look 〔see〕 after sb. or sth. ***

Companies in some countries nowadays realize that a woman who has to worry about her children while she's at work is not capable of giving her best to her job. So a growing trend these days is employer-sponsored day care centers where working mothers can leave their children and know that they will be looked after by professionally-trained teachers and nurses.

2. look as if butter wouldn't melt in one's mouth **

She was a woman who looked as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth and so never met and married a man. But her novels reveal a very different woman was inside, hidden behind her plain features. The women of all thirty-seven of her novels are aggressive, wild and free ladies who sleep with countless men in hot, tenuous love affairs.

3. look at sb. cross-eyed / look cross-eyed at sb. **

The armies of the South and the North have been sitting across from each other along the demilitarized zone on the Korean Peninsula for decades, each ready to respond with force if the other even so much as looks cross-eyed at them.

4. look back on sb. or sth. ***

More than sixty years have passed since a single atomic bomb dropped from an American bomber destroyed the entire city of Hiroshima. The Japanese still look back on the event as the ultimate proof that they were the victims of World WarⅡ, while the rest of the world sees it quite differently.

5. look daggers at sb. **

It was just an instance in length, but I caught it: his wife looked daggers at Michael when he started to tell us why they don't have a baby yet. He quickly changed the subject after she gave him that dirty look . I think maybe she has a physical problem.
