詞組講解
1. get the runaround **聽到各種借口,受到推諉或搪塞,被騙
解 習語;詞義溯源:得到[借口、推諉、搪塞、欺騙(runaround)];give sb. the runaround表示“想方設法推諉”
例 You'll never find out who ordered the police to raid your building. If you inquire, you'll just get the runaround. They'll just send you from office to office and you'll never get the answer.
2. get the sack 〔ax〕 *被解雇;被拒絕
解 俚語;詞義溯源:遭受[炒魷魚、拒絕(the sack)或解雇(the ax)]
例 The boss has told his workers that if they continue to be unconcerned about doing their work, they would be sure to get the sack sooner or later.
