I know that grandmamma would say,
我知道祖母肯定會說，
Don't meddle with it, dear;
別碰它，親愛的，
But then she's far enough away,
但是她現(xiàn)在出門走遠了，
And no one else is near;
這里又沒有其他人，
Beside, what can there be amiss,
再說，打開盒子看一下
In opening such a box as this?
又能出什么差錯呢？
So, thumb and finger went to work to move the stubborn lid;
這樣一想，拇指和食指開始一起工作來扭動緊緊的蓋子；
And, presently, a mighty jerk the mighty mischief did;
現(xiàn)在，一次小聰明造成猛烈的一抖；
For all at once, ah! woeful case!

The snuff came puffing in her face.

Poor eyes, and nose, and mouth, and chin,

Made many a promise to refrain from meddling evermore;

And 't is a fact, as I have heard,

She ever since has kept her word.
