We Share Everything

An elderly couple goes to Burger King, where they carefully split a burger and fries.

A trucker takes pity on them and offers to buy the wife her own meal.

"It's all right," says the husband. "We share everything."

A few minutes later, the trucker notices that the wife hasn't taken a bite.

"I really wouldn't mind buying your wife her own meal," he insists.

"She'll eat," the husband assures him. "We share everything."

Unconvinced, the trucker implores the wife, "Why aren't you eating?"

The wife snaps, "Because I'm waiting for the teeth!"

一對老夫婦在漢堡王餐廳吃飯，他們小心翼翼地將漢堡和薯條分成兩份。

一個卡車司機非常同情他們，就提議想給老太太單獨點一份。

詞匯講解】

1.elderly年長的/近老年的/老人。Old與elderly： old是老的意思 older是比老還要老的意思;elder是年長，elderly是年長者 。He is an old man.[他是個老人。] He is older[他更老。]She is my elder sister.[她是我的姐姐。] Please give up your seat for the elderly[請把位子讓給年長者。]

2.split分離，劃分。有時與up連用，比如：split up a cake into 4 lots.把蛋糕分成4份。注意：它的過去分詞也是split，進行時是splitting，雙寫t。

3.offer在文中是“主動表示愿意做某事”的意思。還有“出價”之意：I’ll offer you nine pounds for it.這件東西我愿出9鎊買下來。

4.unconvinced懷疑的。She looks unconvinced, but says nothing.她看上去沒有信服，但不作聲。

5.implore懇求，哀求，乞求?？勺骷拔飫釉~：I implore you to help me.懇請你幫助我。也可作不及物動詞：The prisoner implored pardon.囚犯哀求赦免。

6.snap在文中是“咂嘴”的意思。它也有“怒聲責罵”之意：I snapped at him to sit down.我厲聲命他坐下。
