Counting Your Ribs

Sometimes women are overly suspicious of their husbands. When Adam stayed out very late for a few nights, Eve became upset.

“You’re running around with other women,” she charged.

“You’re being unreasonable, ” Adam responded. “You’re the only woman on earth.”

The quarrel continued until Adam fell asleep, only to be awakened by someone poking him in the chest. It was Eve.

“What do you think you’re doing? ” Adam demanded.

“Counting your ribs.”

詞匯講解】

1.suspicious多疑的。也有“可疑的”的意思：He is a suspicious character.他是個(gè)可疑人物。“表示懷疑的”：He shot a suspicious glance at me.他超我懷疑地看了一眼。

2.stay out不在家，在外。也有“呆在戶外”、“堅(jiān)持到……結(jié)束”的意思：stay out the whole long performance看完整場長時(shí)間的演出。還可表示“避開，不參與”：stay out of trouble不惹是非

3.run around交往，私通：run around with a bad crowd.與一伙壞人為伍。They’ve been running around together for some time.他們交往已有些時(shí)候了。
