Goethe’s Tolerance

Goethe was once strolling on a narrow path in a park in Weimar. As luck would have it, he met with a critic who was hostile to him. Both of them stopped, staring at each other. Then the critic said, "I'll never make way for a fool."

"But I will." with that Goethe retreated aside.

【詞匯講解】

1.critic批評(píng)家。 That would put blood in the eye of his critics.那會(huì)使得批評(píng)他的人更加惱火。

2. hostile懷有敵意的。也可以指“敵方的”：This is a hostile territory.這是敵占區(qū)。

3.make way讓路。 Make way, there! I need to get through.讓一讓, 我需要走過(guò)去。

4.retreat退卻。 Our soldiers force the enemy to retreat.我們的戰(zhàn)士迫使敵人后退。
