Everybody ran at once to the far corner of the pasture; and there was Willie, alive and well, in the shaft.

所有人馬上跑到牧場(chǎng)那個(gè)遙遠(yuǎn)的角落，威利果然在那個(gè)枯井里，安然無(wú)恙。

Oh, how glad he was when his father caught him in his arms, and lifted him out!

噢，當(dāng)父親的雙臂抱起威利，把他拉到井外的那一刻，威利多么高興?。?/p>

Now I will tell you how Willie came to be in the shaft.

好了，現(xiàn)在我來(lái)告訴你威利是怎么掉進(jìn)枯井里去的。

Heand Caper went to the pasture field, and came to the edge of the shaft and sat down.

他和凱普到牧場(chǎng)上玩耍，來(lái)到枯井的邊緣坐了下來(lái)。

In bending over to see how deep it was, he lost his balance, and fell in.

在彎腰看井有多深的時(shí)候，威利失去平衡掉了下去。

He tried very hard to get out, but could not.

他做了很大的努力，卻怎么也爬不上來(lái)。

When the good little dog saw that his master was in the shaft, he would not leave him, but ran round and round,reaching down and trying to pull him out.

小狗看見(jiàn)主人掉進(jìn)了井里，它始終不離不棄，繞著井口跑來(lái)跑去，還往下探身子試圖把他拉上來(lái)。

But while Caper was pulling Willie by the coat sleeves, a piece of sod gave way under his feet, and he fell in too.

可是就在凱普咬著威利外套的袖子往上拉的時(shí)候，它腳下的一塊草皮松了，于是凱普也滑進(jìn)了井里。

Willie called for his father and mother as loud as he could call; but he was so far away from the house that no one could hear him.

威利用盡最大的聲音使勁喊爸爸媽媽?zhuān)欢x家太遠(yuǎn)了，根本沒(méi)有人聽(tīng)見(jiàn)他的呼喊。

He CRIed and called till it was dark, and then he lay down on the ground, and Caper lay down close beside him.

他又哭又喊直到天黑，然后躺倒在地上，凱普也在他身邊躺了下來(lái)。

It was not long before Willie CRIed himself to sleep.

威利哭著哭著，沒(méi)多久就睡著了。

When he awoke it was morning, and he began to think of a way to get out.

到威利醒過(guò)來(lái)的時(shí)候已經(jīng)天亮了，他開(kāi)始想辦法離開(kāi)這個(gè)地方。

The little writing book that his aunt had given him, was in his pocket.

他想起了口袋里阿姨送給他小本子。

He took it out, and, after a good deal of trouble, wrote the letter to his father.

威利把小本子掏了出來(lái)，費(fèi)了半天的勁兒，寫(xiě)了那封給爸爸的信。

Then he tore the leaf out, and took a string out of his pocket, and tied it round Caper's neck, and tied the letter to the string.

寫(xiě)完之后，威利撕下了那一頁(yè)紙，從口袋里拿出一根繩子，綁在凱普的脖子上，再把信綁緊。

Then he lifted the dog up, and helped him out, and said to him, "Go home, Caper, go home!"

然后，他把小狗舉起來(lái)，幫助它爬了上去，對(duì)它說(shuō)：“回家，凱普，回家！”

The little dogs campered away, and was soon at home.

小狗馬上飛奔起來(lái)，很快就到家了。
