703　wait和await

① wait多用于口語，常作不及物動詞，結(jié)構(gòu)為：wait for sb./sth.，wait for sb./sth. to do sth.。wait后還可接不定式，也可接由till，until引導(dǎo)的從句。

Time and tide wait for no man. 歲月不待人。

She is waiting for him to call. 她在等他的電話。

He is waiting to have a word with you. 他在等著同你說句話。

② wait也可用作及物動詞，意為“期待，靜待”。

He has waited his turn for three hours. 他已經(jīng)等了三個小時。（for three hours作狀語）

They are waiting supper for him. 他們在等他吃晚飯。

③ await是正式用語，及物動詞，意為“等候，等待著，準(zhǔn)備以待”，后跟名詞、代詞或動名詞。

He is eagerly awaiting hearing from you. 他熱切地等待著你的來信。

A surprise awaited her on her arrival. 她到達(dá)時大吃一驚。

I am awaiting your reply. 我正等候你的答復(fù)。
