① habit指長時(shí)期逐漸養(yǎng)成的、一時(shí)不易改變的“個(gè)人的”習(xí)慣,如愛散步的習(xí)慣、飲茶的習(xí)慣等,結(jié)構(gòu)為:
form the habit of doing sth.
have the habit of doing sth.
fall into good/bad habits養(yǎng)成好/壞習(xí)慣
He has the habit of going for a walk after supper. 他有晚飯后散步的習(xí)慣。
The man has formed the habit of smoking.
那人養(yǎng)成了抽煙的習(xí)慣。
The man has formed the habit to smoke.
(habit后不可跟不定式)
② custom指某個(gè)“國家、社會(huì)、社會(huì)群體”經(jīng)過一個(gè)較長時(shí)間過程形成的風(fēng)俗或習(xí)慣,結(jié)構(gòu)為:
It is one's custom to do sth.
It has become the custom for sb. to do sth.
It is their custom to eat dumplings on New Year's Day. 新年吃餃子是他們的風(fēng)俗。
Japanese customs vary greatly from the Chinese. 日本人的風(fēng)俗同中國的風(fēng)俗大不相同。
③ 復(fù)數(shù)形式customs表示“關(guān)稅,進(jìn)口稅”。
We have to pay customs on the camera equipment we bought abroad. 我們?cè)趪赓I的照相設(shè)備須付關(guān)稅。
④ the Customs表示“海關(guān)”。
It took us only a few minutes to get through the Customs. 通過海關(guān)只花了我們幾分鐘。
