311　give in，give up，give off，give out和send out

① give in意為“屈服，讓步”，可以單獨使用，表示“向某人或某物讓步”。結(jié)構(gòu)為：

give in to sb.

give in to sth.

She would rather die than give in. 她寧死不屈。

I won't give in to her. 我決不遷就她。

They have given in our views.

（后面不可直接跟賓語）

They have given in to our views.

他們接受了我們的觀點。

② give up意為“放棄，停止（做某事）”，結(jié)構(gòu)為：

give up sth.

give sb./oneself up

give up doing sth.

She was forced to give up school. 她被迫輟學(xué)了。

He was so seriously wounded that the doctors gave him up. 他的傷那么重，醫(yī)生放棄對他治療了。

He has given up smoking. 他已經(jīng)戒煙了。

③ give off意為“散發(fā)（光、熱、氣體、氣味等）”。

The flowers gave off a sweet fragrance. 花兒散發(fā)出芳香。

The shoes give off a bad smell. 那些鞋子散發(fā)出難聞的氣味。

④ give out意為“分發(fā)；宣布；耗盡”。

She gave the apples out to the children. 她把蘋果分發(fā)給孩子們。

The supply of food gave out. 食物貯存告罄。

⑤ send out表示“發(fā)出，發(fā)送；長出（樹葉等）”。

Have you sent out invitations？你把請柬發(fā)出了嗎？

The trees send out new shoots in spring. 春天樹長出了新芽。
