Here are some great videos of how it would look if the moon were replaced by the planets in our solar system . In both videos the planets appear as if they were 240,000 miles from the earth . This is the average distance of the moon from earth . So, for example, Venus is roughly four times larger than the moon, so it would appear four times larger than the moon in the night sky. What is interesting about this thought experiment is that it gives us a good idea of how big some planets are .
