Reporter: What’s that about?

記者:那是關(guān)于什么的呢?

Chambers: The first one was a little bit uncomfortable, because it’s very unprofessional. You just basically put a camera there, and then you go. By the second one, I realized this was going to transform communications— not just for the CEO, but also it would change how we do business.

Reporter: You mentioned Jack Welch. Who else do you rely on for advice?

Chambers: My wife. She has a way of picking me up when I get knocked on my tail. But also if I get a little bit overconfident, she brings me back to earth. The other day, I was practicing a concept with her and saying, “You know, there are two major mistakes that I make and Cisco makes repeatedly.” She looked at me and she said, “Only two?”My mistakes are always around moving too slow, or moving too fast without process behind it. And it’s something that, if we’re not careful, we’ll repeat again and again.

錢伯斯:我的妻子。當(dāng)我遇到挫折的時(shí)候,她總是有辦法使我振作起來。但是當(dāng)我有些過于自信的時(shí)候,她也會(huì)使我以平常心來對(duì)待。幾天之前,我在跟她一起練習(xí)一個(gè)概念時(shí)跟她說:"你知道嗎?我有兩個(gè)主要的錯(cuò)誤,思科也在一直不斷地重復(fù)那兩個(gè)錯(cuò)誤。"她看著我, 然后說:"只有兩個(gè)嗎?”我所犯的錯(cuò)誤總是關(guān)于公司運(yùn)行地太快或者是太慢, 而如果我們不注意這些錯(cuò)誤的話,我們會(huì)一直反復(fù)地犯下去。

Reporter: How do you hire?

記者:公司雇傭員工方面,您是怎樣做的呢?

Chambers: First thing I want to ask you about: tell me about your results. I never get hard work confused with success. So I,d walk you through the successes, and what did you do right. I’d also ask you to tell me about your failures. And that’s something people make a loses credibility. It’s the ability to be very candid on what mistakes they’ve made, and then the question is, what would you do differently this time? Then I ask them who are the best people you recruited and developed,and where are they today? Third, I try to figure out if they’re really oriented around the customer. Are they tremendous mistake on. First, all of us have had mistakes and failures. And it’s surprising how many people say, “Well,I can’t think of one.” That immediately driven by the customer, or is the customer just somebody who gets in the way? And I look at their communication skills, and one of the largest parts of communications is ... what?

錢伯斯:首先我會(huì)問你:請(qǐng)告訴我你所取得的成就。我從來不會(huì)將"努力工作”和"成功"混為一談。所以我想要知道你所取得的成績是什么。你做過的正確的事是什么。我也會(huì)問你曾經(jīng)遭遇的失敗有什么,這也是很多人經(jīng)常犯錯(cuò)誤的地方。首先,我們所有人都會(huì)犯錯(cuò)和經(jīng)歷失敗,但是令我們感到驚訝的是,很多人都會(huì)回答說:我記不起來了。那立刻就使你失去了可行性。這是一種能夠坦率面對(duì)自己所犯錯(cuò)誤的能力。然后接下來的問題就是,如果還有一次機(jī)會(huì)的話,你會(huì)怎樣做?然后我會(huì)問他們:你們所招聘優(yōu)秀的,他們現(xiàn)在在哪里工作。第三,我會(huì)弄清楚他們?cè)诳蛻糁g是否真的會(huì)發(fā)揮導(dǎo)向作用。他們是會(huì)被顧客牽著走還是客戶只是阻礙他們的人。我還會(huì)看他們的交流技巧。關(guān)于交流方面的最重要的一點(diǎn)是……什么呢?

Reporter: Listening?

記者:是傾聽嗎?

Chambers: You betcha. Seeing how they listen, and are they willing to challenge you? And then I look at their knowledge in industry segments, especially the area I’m interested in.

錢伯斯:是的。要看他們?cè)鯓勇犇阏f話,他們是否愿意來提出挑戰(zhàn)你的問題,然后看他們?cè)趯I(yè)領(lǐng)域方面的知識(shí)水平,尤其是在我所感興趣的領(lǐng)域。

Reporter: What’s changed in the last few years?

記者:在最近這幾年中,什么事情發(fā)生和培訓(xùn)的人員當(dāng)中,誰是最了改變?

Chambers: Big time, the importance of collaboration. Big time, people who have teamwork skills, and their use of technology. If they’re not collaborative, if they aren’t naturally inclined toward collaboration and teamwork, if they are uncomfortable with using technology to make that happen both within Cisco and in their own life, they’re probably not going to fit in here.

錢伯斯:協(xié)作的重要性,人們開始有集體合作意識(shí),并且能夠使用科技了。如果人們不具備協(xié)作的精神,如果他們不能自然地傾向于參加集體活動(dòng)進(jìn)行協(xié)作,如果在思科公司內(nèi)部和他們的曰常生活中,他們不能夠使用科技的話,那么他們可能就不適合待在思科。
